Just like promposals and baby gender reveal celebrations, destination bachelorette parties are no longer the exception, but the norm. Gone are the days of the one fun night out.  Those about to say ‘I do’ are taking 2-day, 3-day, even week long trips with their BFFs to big cities and small towns to enjoy unique experiences before the big day.

More and more, the brides-to-be (or their friends for them) are choosing Charlottesville for this pre-wedding adventure. And with good reason!  While we have amazing seasonal events here that everyone loves, such as Fridays After Five or Polo at King Family Vineyards, there are amazing options for bachelorette fun happening every day in our fair city. Here are some ‘don’t miss’ ideas of what to do in Charlottesville for your bachelorette getaway.

Tour Wine Country

According to almost every bride/wedding/entertainment publication out there, the most popular destination bachelorette parties now involve either camping or wine tours. So, if you are really into indoor showers, you will probably choose the vino option, and Charlottesville is the perfect place for your group.  With a history of winemaking back to the first settlers and the ‘founding father of wine,’ Thomas Jefferson, being from the state, Virginia has established itself as the wine capital of the east with Charlottesville leading the way.

Monticello Wine Tour & Coach Co. – Probably the best way to explore Virginia wine is to have someone local to the area drive you and your group to many vineyards to experience not only different wine making styles, but to see the beautiful views that surround these tasting rooms. Monticello Wine Tour & Coach Co. offers private tours for groups of 2-14 and can plan your tour of 3-5 wineries based on your taste. Or, if you already have your vineyards picked out, they can provide safe and first class transportation for your group. Click the link above or call 434.260.7143 to book.

Stay at a Vineyard – Don’t want to travel too far to get to the tasting room? Many vineyards have guest houses on or near the vineyard. At Afton Mountain Vineyard, your group can rent cottages right on the property and even take a vineyard horseback trail ride with Rebel’s Run while there.  Across from Jefferson Vineyards is a beautiful 6-bedroom estate home which is close to historic Monticello. Taste the grape and learn some history to boot!

Enjoy Personalized Shopping

Charlottesville’s historic downtown mall is known for its many unique boutiques, and no matter what your style, you can find a shop that speaks to you.  Besides the general fabulousness that you will find in all of these stores, some offer specialized shopping just for bachelorette parties.

Front window at Derriere de Soie

Derriere de Soie – Have the lingerie party where the bride can actually choose her intimate apparel, eliminating sizing guess-work and returns.  Derriere de Soie offers professional bra fit services and a range of lingerie options in an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. You can book a date for your bachelorette party event by calling 434.977.7455 or email Events are typically scheduled on Friday or Saturday evenings, or some Sundays. For groups of 5 or less, they provide a bottle of bubbly and light snacks, and for up to 10, they provide a second bottle and some additional light refreshments.  They even take contributions to a Bridal Gift Certificate anonymously, if you wish, pooling the total and gifting it to the bride-to-be at the party.

Spring Street – Once you’ve gotten the ‘under clothes’ taken care of, head to Spring Street to find awesome outfits to go over them. The staff always treats everyone special, but if you’ve got a group celebrating a milestone or occasion, Cynthia and the staff will go above and beyond to make sure you have an exceptional experience in their store. There is plenty of room for the entire group to shop ’til you drop. Use their contact form to let them know about your visit, and they will make sure the shopping spree is awesome:

Spahhhhhh Day

What would a bachelorette party be without a spa day? And Charlottesville offers a plethora of options for everything from blowouts to botox, massages to manicures, and spray tans to salt scrubs. Bring the party to these locations and leave feeling incredible.

Glo-Out Glamour Bar – Glo-Out’s large and welcoming space is the perfect place for your group to get its glow on. They offer sugar hair removal, spray tanning, blowouts, facials, lash and brow services, and a makeup bar.  You’ve got to look good for the big day! To schedule a day for the bachelorettes, you can call 434.293.1251, but for wedding day-of services, you can use their convenient event form:

Halo Salt Spa – If you are looking for a complete relaxation experience, then Halo certainly fits the bill. It is Charlottesville’s first salt spa offering halotherapy (salt therapy). Your entire party can experience this treatment together is Halo’s salt room where the walls are covered in Himalayan salt crystals and a halogenerator grinds up Himalayan Salt, dispersing dry salt aerosol into the room, which is believed to relieve stress, improve lung function, stimulate metabolism, and even cure hangovers.  Members of your group can choose other services during your visit, such as a relaxing massage, body or foot scrub, reiki, or even cupping.  Call 434.234.3827 to inquire about their group discounts!

Nua Med Spa – Nua is a cosmetic dermatology practice focused on facial and body rejuvenation. We all have little trouble spots, and that’s where Nua comes in offering chemical peels, coolsculpting, dermal fillers, fraxel laser resurfacing and more. Everyone in your group can choose the service that’s right for them. Most services you will want to do well in advance of the wedding day, so call 434.956.4835 to get more information on bringing your group in and the best timing for the services you desire.

Oh Yes, the Food

As I mentioned in our Valentine’s restaurant series, Charlottesville has A LOT of restaurants, supposedly ranking 11th on the list of cities with the most restaurants per capita. However, when you are having a bachelorette meal gathering, there are likely to be presents, funny stories you want to share, and moments that you don’t necessarily want to present to a restaurant full of people. Here are a couple of dining alternatives that give you the privacy and service you want for a special event.

Library 101 – Located at Old Metropolitan Hall, Library 101 is a private space off the downtown mall and is perfect for up to 18 guests.  Want to show a slideshow of the bride and groom? There is a 55” TV to get a huge view of their baby photos and engagement pictures. It’s a hidden space, so you can share embarrassing stories without it being all over social media the next day. Make the meal to be just what you want by working with the Old Met staff who can suggest caterers that line up with your tastes.  Reserve Library 101 by inquiring here: or call 434-260-7144.

Common House – Private dining at Common House is an all-inclusive experience. You work with their in-house team (chef, sommelier, and bar manager) to create a custom meal and event. They offer different areas of the facility based on your number of guest. You can find out more by emailing

A Couple More
