The celebration of our nation’s birthday is a big deal around Charlottesville for many reasons. Having one of our founding father’s homes right in our backyard definitely sets the tone. And while that does give us a sense of pride, there is more to our love of the day than that. Our city uniquely embraces everything that the Declaration of Independence stands for – “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” We invite you to come join us as this celebration takes shape in and around Cville in its many fun and exciting forms.

Early Celebrations

Since July 4th is on a Thursday this year, a couple of celebrations will be taking place the weekend before.

Crozet Independence Day Parade and Celebration, June 29th – The parade starts at 5pm, and fireworks are at 9:30pm. Taking place at Cladius Crozet Park, it promises to be a fun time for the entire family.

Boar’s Head Fun for the Fourth Weekend, June 29th – There’ll be music on the green from Gallatin Canyon starting at 7pm and fireworks at dusk. Food and beverage options will be available.

Fireworks and More on the 4th

Monticello – What an amazing day July 4th is at Monticello as over 70 individuals will be naturalized as United States citizens. This year’s keynote speaker will be Khizr Khan, constitutional rights and national unity advocate and a Gold Star parent. The celebration is from 9am until noon and includes free first floor walk-through tours of Monticello.

Carter’s Mountain Happy Birthday America – Just down the road from Monticello is perhaps the best place to see all of the fireworks around Charlottesville, as well as get the best apple cider donuts you have ever tasted. Live music starts at 3pm, and there will be a water balloon toss, sack races, and more for the kiddos. Wine and hard cider will be available for purchase for the adults, as well.

McIntire Park’s Patriotism in the Park – As of this writing, the July 4th fireworks at McIntire Park may or may not happen. We will keep this page updated as we get word. UPDATE: According to CBS19, the fireworks display will be happening at McIntire Park thanks to area donors.

July 4th in Surrounding Areas

Wintergreen’s July 4th Jubilee – This all day celebration at Wintergreen Resort has live music, a block party for the kids, and an amazing fireworks display at 9:30pm. The music continues after the fireworks in the Edge restaurant at the resort.

Scottsville’s Independence Day Celebration – This is another all day event with a parade, a car show, fireworks at dusk, and many more events in between.

Red, White, Blue, and Greene – With their tagline being ‘Small Town, Big Party,’ you know this will be fun. The events start at 5pm on Main Street in Stanardsville and include a parade, live music, a flag ceremony, and, you guessed it, fireworks.
